ADVANCE NOTICE OF EMPLOYEE EMAIL

Dear Colleague,

Effective immediately, employees will only need one year of Abbott service to be eligible for The Clara Abbott Foundation.

The Clara Abbott Foundation is dedicated to helping Abbott employees and retirees facing financial challenges.  Over the last 80 years, we have provided tens of thousands of need-based grants and university-level scholarships to our colleagues worldwide. We are pleased to announce that we are extending Clara’s mission to help even more Abbott families by reducing our eligibility requirement to one year of Abbott service. Previously, a minimum of two years of service was required.

Tomorrow, newly eligible employees will receive the email below that includes information about our services. Feel free to share this information with other employees, especially those who don’t regularly access email.

Details:

  • Employees with at least ONE year of continuous Abbott service are now eligible for Clara Abbott programs, which include need-based financial assistance and university-level scholarships. Previously, two years of Abbott service was required
  • Lifetime eligibility remains available to employees who are at least 50 years old with a minimum of 10 years of continuous Abbott service on their last day with the company
  • The Foundation remains able to help ANY employee, regardless of years of service, who is experiencing a life-threatening situation or catastrophic disaster to ensure emergency access to food, clothing and shelter
  • Foundation services remain only for Abbott employees. Contractors are not eligible for Foundation services
  • Visit clara.abbott.com for detailed information and applications for assistance

There are no changes to how we review and assess who may qualify for support through our Financial Assistance and Scholarship Programs. Those seeking assistance will still need to demonstrate financial hardship to be considered for a grant. Details can be found on our website.

Thank you for sharing this information with your employees, and for your continued support of The Foundation.

How We help

Financial Grants
If an unplanned event, medical situation, loss of household income, inflation, or other situation has made it difficult for you to afford mortgage/rent, medicine, gas, food, or other basic need, we may be able to help by providing a short-term financial grant. If you are behind in your bills, can’t afford your essential expenses, or borrowing to make ends meet, you may want to consider applying for assistance.  While not everyone will qualify for a grant, those who participate in the assessment process will receive actionable recommendations to help address their short-term financial concerns. Scholarships
Need-based scholarships are available to help the children of Abbott employees attend accredited, college, trade, vocational or other post-secondary institutions. Scholarships are for undergraduate studies only. Applications and deadlines vary.  Click to learn more.
