Clara Abbott Mission

The mission of the Clara Abbott Foundation is to effectively and responsibly provide needed assistance to Abbott families worldwide. The Foundation will endure to serve future generations.

Examples of how we help

Our financial grants are available to eligible employees who are struggling to afford their basic needs (such as food, clothing, shelter, medicine).  We also offer need-based, college-level scholarships. Please see below for examples of the types of expenses we may and may not be able to assist with. If you have any questions, please email


Financial grants can help with expenses such as: 

  • Medical and dental expenses
  • Mortgage and rent
  • Essential home repairs
  • Essential utilities (such as water, electricity)
  • Transportation expenses (including vehicle repairs)
  • Expenses related to special needs
  • Property taxes
  • Other short-term expenses

The Foundation does NOT help with:

  • Non-essential home improvement
  • Vacations
  • Optional medical or dental treatments
  • Long-term financial solutions
  • Expenses related to extended family members such as parents or siblings
  • Other non-essential expenses


 Need-based scholarships can help eligible dependents with:

  • The costs of tuition, fees, books and supplies at these accredited schools:
    • College (must qualify as a university [or equivalent]) / Post-secondary / Tertiary
    • Community College
    • University
    • Vocational School
    • Trade School

The Foundation does NOT help with:

  • Primary/elementary, middle/intermediate and high school/secondary costs
  • A student’s second Bachelor’s degree or advanced degrees such as Master’s, Doctorate, Specialist, etc.
  • Audited courses
  • Seminars not required as part of an undergraduate degree
  • Additional costs for study abroad
  • Any courses not associated with an accredited institution
