COVID-19 Financial Support
The COVID-19 situation has disrupted the lives of thousands of Abbott families around the world. Changes in schedules, planned events, and routine activities can cause both personal and financial concerns. We are here to help.
We can provide financial grants to employees who are experiencing financial hardship resulting from unexpected expenses, such as:
- Loss of eligible family member’s income
- Medical expenses
- Costs of food and supplies
- Child care costs
- Transportation and other expenses

Do you give financial grants or loans?
The Foundation provides financial grants only. Awards do not have to be paid back to The Foundation.
Can you help me get supplies?
The Foundation provides monetary assistance only. While we can’t help you secure supplies, we may provide a financial grant if you are experiencing financial hardship as a result of these expenses.
Can you help me with additional expenses related to child care?
If you are experiencing financial hardship, we may be able to provide you with a financial grant to help with the additional child care expenses incurred as a result of COVID-19. Please complete and submit an application so a financial consultant can review your financial situation.
How much money will I get if I apply?
The mission of The Foundation is to provide financial assistance for basic needs. We look at every situation on an individual basis so amounts will vary depending on the financial situation of the applicant. Our goal is to provide short-term assistance to help employees get through their immediate financial hardship. Grants are not given to fully restore financial losses, and not every applicant will qualify for an award.
I am currently isolating due to a possible exposure. Will I still be paid if I don’t go to work?
The Foundation is a separate not-for-profit organization that operates independently from Abbott. All questions regarding pay, leave, vacation, etc. should be directed to Abbott Human Resources.
I only have six months of Abbott service, am I eligible to apply?
Any Abbott employee struggling financially as a result of COVID-19 can apply for financial assistance. In the event of a financial emergency, The Foundation’s employee eligibility requirement of two years of Abbott service is being waived.
How bad does the situation have to be to get assistance?
We look at every situation on an individual basis. We encourage anyone facing financial hardship to apply so we can review their situation and determine how we may be able to assist.
Will you cover losses like air or travel plans?
The mission of The Foundation is to provide financial assistance for basic needs (food, clothing, shelter, medicine, etc). We encourage employees who are looking to be reimbursed for travel-related expenses to contact their airlines, hotels, etc. directly.
We look at every situation on an individual basis, and evaluate need based on the employee’s financial situation. We encourage anyone facing financial hardship to contact us so we can review their situation and determine how we may be able to assist.
If I have an open case, do I need to apply again for COVID-19 support?
No, you do not need to apply again. Please work with your financial consultant to share any additional financial concerns you may have resulting from COVID-19.
Is there a deadline to apply for COVID-19 support?
There is currently no deadline to apply for COVID-19 support.
Who is considered an eligible family member?
Eligible family members include immediate family members of an eligible employee or eligible former employee:
- Dependent children living inside or outside the eligible client’s household
- Age 19 or younger
- Age 24 or younger, if a full-time student
- Regardless of student status, up to any age when the dependent child has a life-threatening or severely disabling illness
Can you help me with expenses related to my spouse’s loss of income?
If you are experiencing financial hardship as a result of your spouse’s loss of income, we may be able to provide you with a financial grant. Please complete and submit an application so a financial consultant can review your financial situation.
I want to help my colleagues; can I donate to The Clara Abbott Foundation?
Thank you for your compassion and concern for your Abbott colleagues. While we greatly appreciate you thinking of us, we are currently not accepting financial donations. The Foundation’s portfolio is funded from the initial gift provided by Clara Abbott, wife of Abbott’s founder, nearly 80 years ago. We encourage you to share your generosity with other organizations close to your heart.

How do I upload my pay slip/stub?
You can either upload a PDF from your computer, or take a picture of your pay stub/slip and upload that image into your application.
What if I don’t have access to some of the information requested on the application?

How quickly will I hear back from The Foundation after I apply?
Once you apply, we will begin processing your application immediately. Please note, due to the large volume of applications resulting from COVID-19, it may take longer than usual for a Foundation representative to contact you regarding your application. We are working as quickly as possible to respond to all requests within 30 days. We appreciate your patience as we work to assist all our colleagues in need around the world.
