Applicant (refers to student)
- Dependent children (24 years of age or younger as of the application deadline) of regular full-time or regular part-time employees with at least 12 months of service (or one year from date of Abbott acquisition) are eligible to apply for a Clara Abbott scholarship.
- Dependent children are defined as natural or legally adopted children, stepchildren, legal wards and children/dependents of Abbott-registered domestic partners. In most cases, the children are living with, primarily supported by and claimed by the employee on their IRS Form 1040 or planilla Income Tax documents. Click here to learn more.
- Dependent children of retirees are also eligible.
- Students who plan to enroll in a full or part-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four-year college or university, community college or vocational/trade school no later than fall 2010. Child should be attending school to obtain their first undergraduate degree. If the applicant has obtained their first undergraduate degree, then they are not eligible to apply.
- Applicants must reapply each year.
- Students must maintain a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) to reapply each year.
Employee/Retiree
- An employee who elects an unpaid leave of absence is not eligible. This does not apply to FMLA.
- Former employees are not eligible.
- Abbott employees and their spouses are not eligible for scholarships.
Scholarships
- Scholarships are awarded based on evaluation of a family’s financial need.
- Scholarships are awarded by school year.
- Graduate students are NOT eligible.
- Students must plan to attend school during the school year for which they apply for a Clara Abbott scholarship.
- Scholarships do not cover the costs of books, supplies, room and board or transportation.
